Inside the world of Vogue. Anna Wintour

The Beautiful, Iconic, Influential, Poise, Confident Anna Wintour is an International fashion icon for her work as editor in chief for Vogue Magazine.  She is known for her oversized dark glasses, high heels, sharp bob hairstyle and that icy demeanor.

Early Life
Before she became a fashion powerhouse Anna was born in London, England the eldest daughter to Charles Wintour and Elinor Wintour on November 3rd, 1949.  She was born into a family with considerable wealth but Wintour had the tendency to do things her own way even at an early age.  When she was a teenager she decided to drop out of her fancy finishing school and forgo her academics and desired to live the life around the tony London life of the 60's.  Age 15 was the beginning of her signature hairstyle and it really has not changed since then. She loved hanging out in some of Londons clubs where some of pop cultures biggest stars were, including the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

Early Editorial Days
Before the days at Vogue, Anna started in the fashion department of Harper's & Queen in London.  Over the next few years she rose up the editorial ladder from London to New York and in 1976 she became fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar.  For the next few years Anna was editor for many different magazines, Viva, Savvy & British Vogue.  She always said that she "Loved coming in and changing magazines." the people at all these different magazines loved what she had to offer and were behind her 100 percent.  Wintour had sharp critiques and lack of patience soon earned her a few memorable nicknames "Nuclear Wintour" and "Wintour of Our Discontent." though she loved it she said " I'm the Conde Nast hit man."

Rise to the Top and Taking Charge
1988 Anna was named editor-in-chief of Vogue. The magazine needed help it was falling it had been at the forefront of the fashion world since the early 60's.  Wintour was given all the freedom and financial backing that she needed to revitalize the publication.  In two-decades Anna has accomplished her mission, restoring Vogue's preeminence and beyond exceeding some huge editions magazines. In the September 2007 issue weighed almost five pounds the most ever for a monthly magazine.

Fashion Powerhouse
Wintour has become a force in the fashion world not only with her decisions about her magazine, but also by breakthrough newer designers and showing off their beautiful talent.  She helped launch careers for Marc Jacobs and Alexander McQueen.  Through the years with this much power and influence comes along a well documented ego.  She developed a reputation for being aloof and cold.  People have said she is hard to work with and insists her staff to be very fashion forward. She has said "I'm very driven by what I do, I am certainly very competitive. I like people who represent the best at what they do, and if that turns you into a perfectionist than maybe I am."  One of Wintour's former assistants wrote The Devil Wears Prada (2006) a fictionalized account of her days at Vogue.  The main character played by Meryl Streep, was a demanding boss unlike Wintour.

Charity and Personal Life
It does not faze Wintour much about comments made about her in the media.  But one thing she does not get recognized for often is her charitable work.  She had raised money in support of the Twin Towers after September 11th.  She is on a council of fashion designers for America who help create new funds to help support new and up coming designers.  Each year she organized a fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's costume department, which brings in $50 million.  Also not to mention Fashions night out in New York City.

Anna Wintour is an amazing woman that has changed history for not only fashion but also women who want to be able to work and do what they love.  She will continue to amaze us who have an undying love for fashion and each monthly issue of Vogue magazine.

XOXO~

Dress for your body shape

If your stumped on what to wear, take a little cheat from some of your celebrity Doppelgängers
Please take this as a reference guide to know great trends for each body type!  Remember
your beautiful just the way you are! Love your body just dress it right!!

                               Short/Slim

Nicole Richie
Rachel Bilson

Body: Short/Slim

Top Trends to try:
Mini Dresses  worn with flats or heels, this will elongate your body

Wide-Leg Trousers or Jeans properly tailored pants like on Rachel will lengthen your legs

Wedges A pair of wedge sandals/heels
under your wide-legged jeans will create
the illusion of a major growth-spurt.

*being short wasted is one of my own issues I struggle with
when shopping for clothes.  Its really important to make sure
when choosing clothes you dont want to be chopping your
already short body in half with what your choose to wear.

** Words of Wisdom Don't avoid the tailors. No matter how cute or expensive something is, if it does't fit properly, its ugly.

                       TALL/SLIM

Katie Holmes

 Body:  Tall and Slim

Top trends to try:
Skinny Jeans or cigarette pants your body was made for this style! skinnies with ballet flats or heels look great. Dont worry if they are a little short because that works too.
Horizontal-stripe tops you have the body type that can afford to shorten you torso.  its okay.
Gwyneth Paltrow
Dresses/Skirts almost every dress style works for your body type. Katie Holmes examples denim skirt that is coming back around as a trend this fall. Just make sure its not too short and hits you in all the

                             Short/Curvy

Kelly Osbourne
Scarlett Johansson

Body: Short+Curvy
Top trends to try
Corset or statement belts a super-cincher will pull in your waist + accentuate your shape. Like Kelly did with her belt at this years new york fashion week.
High-waisted skirt solid or print will give you hight well showing off your curves.  Scarlett is wearing a great example of playing with patterns with her high-waisted pencil skirt.
heels  go for anything 3" or taller to give you a little swag in your walk. Whether you like pumps or the classic heel.
Tuckable tops voluminous shirts are a huge no-no for the hourglass types, so tuck that top in!  shown beautifully by both Kelly and Scarlett.

Liv Tyler

TALL/CURVY
Body: Tall + Curvy

Top trends to try:
Blazers A fitted, well-tailored, single-breasted blazer
will streamline your curves.
Wrap Desses Always a classic + easy way to look
effortlessly polished- just make sure it fits properly in
the bust area. You can wear solid or print but make sure
the print is not to busy!
Pencil skirts A slim skirt (either highwasted or standard)
with a tucked-in blouse is perennially feminine + modern-
with our showing too much skin.

                             Pear Shaped

Jennifer Lopez
     body: Pearshaped (more downstairs)
Top trends to try
                                           Shirtdresses Style with top-emphasizing details,
like breast pockets, will help perfect proportion.
Straight-leg jeans You can wear skinny jeans with                                                                             longer and or layered tops, but its best to stick with no
 tapered, straight leg jeans.
A-line skirts or dress This always popular cut slims
your hips while hinting at your curves.  Stay away
from thick material we don't want any added volume.

Large busted
body: large busted (bigger on top)
Top trends to try
Belted dresses+ outer wear Whether its a light
weight summer dress or winter coat, try adding a
belt to clinch your waist + create more of an hourglass shape.
Scoop or square neck tops A high neckline will give an overall appearance of extra weight,
so stick to lower cut, but tasteful, neckline.  Think below the collarbone but about the
major cleavage.
Low-rise jeans  If your try and wear high-waisted pants, all everybody will see
is boobs and legs.  Instead lengthen your torso with mid or low-rise jeans.

                                                                 Katy Perry

Athletic

body: Athletic
Top trends to try
Dresses Show off those natural toned looking
arms. find a dress that sleeve less or strapless.
Athletic girls usually have flatter tops and note-
worthy bums.
Cropped jackets These jackets, especially double-
breasted styles- look great on broad shoulders +
a smaller chest.  They create shape + show off your
sleek torso.
Wide-leg trousers or jeans These perfectly tailored
pant will show off that toned behind and soften the look
of potentially bulky leg muscles.

                                                          XOXO

Who Wore it Better....

Both Carey Mulligan + Victoria Beckham were caught wearing the same black suit jacket
recently.  This is one of Vitoria's designs from her new collection. Carey's bold choice to go commando under this tux-meets-cape makes for a very sexy suit showing off a little more than meets the eye.  It also highlights the unique cutyou can really see the cleverly cut arm holes. I'm also a major fan of those t-strap pumps. While Mrs. David Beckham looks gorgeous in the slim-fit fashion, her choice of styling is far more typicala black, silk shell and simple shoes.  I do have to give Carey props for being very daring and bold with how she decided to style the blazer.  I'm going to go with Victoria on this one I like the more Classic way she wears her clothes.

Jennifer Hudson + Kim Kardashian
Wearing the same Donna Karen dress less than 24hrs apart.  Jennifer wore this dress Friday at the Chicago International Film Festival and Kim was wearing it Saturday afternoon leaving Dash in Melrose.  I think a wrap style dress is one of the best flattering for any body shape and actually looks good on both women. This dress is great because it is versatile wore both dressed up and one more casual.  I like that Jennifer chose to not wear the dress open like Kim did.  But I do like Kim's shoe choice better than Jen's.  I have a foot issue and her toes are not flattering at all!!

So who do you think Wore it Better?!?!

I would love to hear your feed back!!

XOXO

Designer Day

From high fashion to ready to wear you could walk right off the runway wearing any of the fabulous pieces designed by Stella McCartney.  She leans towards dressing the young woman with her needs and desires.

Born 1971 and raised in London, England to Ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and his late wife Linda.  Most of the young life was shaped by touring with dads band with her parents and 3 younger Siblings.  Despite her family's celebrity profile she grew up a pretty quite normal life. After her fathers band parted ways her family moved to a little farming town and the children were put into public school.

In 1995 Stella entered the fashion world after graduating from Central St. Martins College of arts & design.  She asked her good friends Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss to model her collection at her graduation.  Two years later she was appointed head designer at the fashion house Chloe in Paris.

Critics gave McCartney a hard time saying her name would not be able to become anything, She quietly and quickly raised from the bottom and became exactly what every young woman wanted and desired from clothes.
Stella launched her own fashion house under her own name in 2001.  Showing her first collection in October at fashion week in Paris.  Lifetime vegetarian Stella does not use any leather or fur in her collections which include- women's ready-to-wear, eye wear, accessories, Lingerie, fragrance, and kids. Besides working on her own line in recent years Stella has come out with a line with H&M and also active wear with Adidas.

The Little Black Dress

“One is never under or over dressed in a little black dress.” Karl Lagerfeld once said quoting the famous clothing designer Coco Chanel.

Coco Chanel was the one to revolutionize woman’s fashion in the 1920’s. October 1st 1926 marks the iconic and history making of the little black dress.  First time Vogue published sketches of Ms. Gabrielle Chanel’s design of what they called Chanel’s “Ford” dress.  It was the beginning of a timeless wardrobe piece that would continue on through the decades, every woman would have one in their closet that they could wear for any occasion.  Vogue Paris called it the “uniform for the modern woman”. It did not appeal yet to the average housewife, but women were starting to move into the cities and becoming independent during the 20’s. They started going shopping and not just going out to get groceries. By the 1930’s the little black dress was something any woman could not live with out. Chanel instructed woman to dress and behave a certain way, and they took her words to heart.  In the 1960’s when the young Audrey Hepburn wore a LBD in Breakfast at Tiffany’s it became a style craze. Though it was not a Chanel design she did embodied the spirit of Chanel when she said “ A girl should be two things classy and fabulous.”

Coco Chanel died 1971 but left behind a legacy of the LBD and fashion would have never been the same without her.  It has evolved over the years but is an essential in every woman’s wardrobe from casual wearing it with flats out to lunch with your girlfriends to dressing up with a pair of fabulous heels and pearls.
